| Treatment protocol |
Three 6-week-old virgin female mice were used for each biological replicate. After sacrifice, mice dorsal skin were shaved and a 0.5 cm biopsy was disected. The tissue sample was immediately liquid nitrogen frozen for later RNA isolation.

Mice were housed and treated according to the American Association of Laboratory Animal Care (AALAC) regulations. All mice procedures were performed according to the protocol approved by the Research Unit for Laboratory Animal Care Committee (UPEAL-CINVESTAV-IPN, Mexico; NOM-062-ZOO-1999)

| Extraction protocol |
RNA was extracted using the TRIzol reagent as per manufacturers instructions and a second round of purification was performed using the Rnaeasy Mini Kit columns (Qiagen).

Biotinylated cRNA were prepared according to the standard Affymetrix protocol from 3 ug total RNA (Expression Analysis Technical Manual, 2001, Affymetrix).

| Hybridization protocol |
After fragmentation, 10 ug of cRNA were hybridized for 16 hr at 45C on GeneChip Mouse Genome 430 2.0 Array. GeneChips were washed and stained in the Affymetrix Fluidics Station 450.

| Scan protocol |
Genechips were scanned using the GCOS software and the Affymetrix Genechip Scanner 3000 7G.
|
| Data processing |
The data was analyzed using Partek Genomic Suite. Raw intensity probes wer imported by setting up RMA background correction and the differential gene expression intensities were calculated with the default one way ANOVA parameters.
