To induce liver fibrosis, seven-week-old mice received 0.6 ml/kg body weight of carbon-tetrachloride (CCl4) dissolved in corn-oil by intraperitoneal (i.p.) injection, twice a week for 10 weeks. As a conrol, mice were injected with equal volume of corn-oil.

Male C57BL/6 mice were housed with 12 hour light/dark cycle and allowed free access to normal food and water.

| Extraction protocol |
Total RNA including miRNA was isolated with TRIzol Reagent (Ambion, Life Technologies, Carlsbad, CA, USA) from liver tissues treated with CCl4 or corn-oil for 10 weeks, following the manufacturer’s instructions. RNA quantity and quality were determined using a nanodrop (Thermo Scientific, Waltham, MA, USA) and Bioanalyzer (Agilent Inc., Santa Clara, CA, USA).

Desalted labeled RNA were prepared from 100ng total RNA Agilent's miRNA Complete Labeling and Hyb Kit.

Desalted labeled RNA were hybridized to the Agilent miRNA expression microarray according to the protocols provided by the manufacturer.

Arrays were scanned using the Agilent Technologies G2600D SG12494263.

| Data processing |
Raw data were extracted using Feature Extraction Software (v11.0.1.1; Agilent) and were firstly filtered by a flag signal detected in all samples. Filtered raw data were processed using the Limma Bioconductor package (http://www.bioconductor.org/) in the R statistical environment (http://www.r-project.org/).
