Extraction protocol Trizol extraction of total RNA was performed according to the manufacturer's instructions.
Label biotin
Label protocol Total RNA (200 ng per sample) was labeled using the Affymetrix GeneChip® cDNA Synthesis and Amplification Kit protocol and hybridized to the arrays as described by the manufacturer
 
Hybridization protocol The cRNA hybridization cocktail was incubated overnight at 45°C while rotating in a hybridization oven. After 16 hours of hybridization, the cocktail was removed and the arrays were washed and stained in an Affymetrix GeneChip fluidics station 450, according to the Affymetrix-recommended protocol
Scan protocol The arrays were scanned using the Affymetrix GCS 3000 7G and the Gene-Chip Operating Software

microRNA expression analysis from striatum
Data processing Microarray data was processed using default RMA normalization (Partek v6.6, Partek Inc. St. Louis, Missouri). Differences across genotypes were compared using analysis of variance and unpaired t-test to look for differences between specific genotypes. For detecting differentially expressed genes or microRNAs, the multiple-test correction of p-value was performed by using the positive false discovery rate (FDR) and genes were filtered by a given q-value threshold
