Pronephric region explants were prepared from stage 24 embryos using a gastromaster (Xenotek) with the tip set to a width of 70 microns. Rectangular explants, approximately 70 microns (dorsal to ventral) x 100 microns (anteriorposterior) and 70 microns (laterally) were cut from the flanks of both sides of embryos. 300 explants were extracted with Trizol (Gibco)
