| Treatment protocol |
Plants with different N status were obtained after transfer from high N to low N solution for 12 days (N limited), and transferred back on high N (N-resupplied). Reference plants (HN) stayed on high N solution. Plants were ASM treated with 0.4g.L Bion®(50%-ASM, Syngenta) sprayed to run-off after 10 days of N limitation or 24h of N-resupply. Controlled plants were sprayed with demineralized water.

| Growth protocol |
Plants were grown under greenhouse conditions (natural photoperiod supplemented with artificial light if needed, 18 °C night and 20–23 °C day), in sub-irrigation devices allowing a fine monitoring of N fertilisation with contrasted nitrate concentrations (high 7 mM N or low 0.5 mM solutions) over the growing period.
