Hyperinsulinemia was produced in pregnant female Wistar rats by subcutaneous implantation of a 2mm segment of a sustained release insulin implant (linplant, Linshin Canada Inc., Canada) a week before and again a week after mating. Female Wistar rats (weight, 200–280 g) were fed on a normal diet and allowed to drink tap water ad libitum. Blood pressure was measured weekly by the tail-cuff method. The experiment conducted as described in our previous investigations (Bursztyn at al., 1993; Podjarny et al., 1998; Bursztyn et al, 2003).
