Treatment protocol Neurons were dissociated and microsphere-labeled CSMN, CPN, or CTPN were purified by fluorescence-activated cell sorting (FACS) directly into RNAlater.
Growth protocol All neuronal subtypes were purified from C57BL/6 mice. Neuronal subtypes were retrogradely labeled with green fluorescent microspheres injected into appropriate axonal fields: sensorimotor cortex (CSMN and CPN) or visual cortex (CTPN).
Extracted molecule total RNA
Extraction protocol RNA was extracted using the StrataPrep Total RNA Micro Kit (Stratagene).
Label biotin
Label protocol RNA was amplified according to the Affymetrix small sample protocol, using two consecutive rounds of linear in vitro transcription to obtain 15-20 ug of amplified and labeled cRNA for each hybridization.
 
Hybridization protocol Standard protocols for Affymetric protocol for 430 2.0 microarrays were used. Arrays were washed on an Affymetrix fluidics station.
Scan protocol According to standard Affymetric protocols.
Description Cells purified by fluorescence-activated cell sorting from murine (C57BL/6) cortex
Data processing RMA normalization was applied using Bioconductor (www.bioconductor.org).
