Title |
Peripheral blood whole transcriptome in patients with acute myocardial infarction and at follow-up |
Organism |
Homo sapiens |
Experiment type |
Expression profiling by array
|
Summary |
There is an unmet need to develop new strategies to improve risk stratification in patients with myocardial infarction and to identify new targets for intervention. The aim of this study was to establish the unbiased peripheral blood whole transcriptome response in myocardial infarction, and to correlate it with clinical characteristics and outcome. RNA expression was determined in the acute phase of MI and at follow-up, and related to clinical phenotype and outcome.

Overall design |
We performed peripheral blood (PAXgene) RNA profiling in 192 samples: acute MI (n=65), 30 days post-MI (n=64), 1 year post-MI (n=37), patients with stable CAD (n=22) and technical replicates (n=4). The unbiased RNA profile was determined in acute MI, and we determined to potential of selected transcript to improve prediction of clinical outcome (eg. left ventricular dysfunction).
