Next generation sequencing reveals gene transcription activities and alternative splicing events in germinating barley embryos

(Submitter supplied) Seed germination triggers a transition of growth and metabolic activities from quiescent to active statuses. Germinating seeds is a good system to study many biological and biochemical processes including hormone metabolic activities and cell wall biosynthesis. Next generation sequence technology is used to study these processes. We have examined gene transcription activities and alternative splicing events in germinating embryos

Metabolic and Transcriptional Reprogramming in Developing Soybean (Glycine max) Embryos

(Submitter supplied) Soybean (Glycine max) seeds are an important source of seed storage compounds, including protein, oil, and sugar used for food, feed, chemical, and biofuel production. We assessed detailed temporal transcriptional and metabolic changes in developing soybean embryos to gain a systems biology view of developmental and metabolic changes and to identify potential targets for metabolic engineering. Two major developmental and metabolic transitions were captured enabling identification of potential metabolic engineering targets specific to seed filling and to desiccation. more...

affy_sunflower_2010_13-ROS and hormones in sunflower seed dormancy.

(Submitter supplied) affy_sunflower_2010_13 - affy_sunflower_2010_13 - It concerns the interaction between ROS and hormones in dormancy release in sunflower seeds. ABA is responsible for dormancy maintenance, while GA and ethylene promote seed germination. Based on our results, ROS could represent good candidate to shift from a hormone signalling to another determining the dormancy state in sunflower seeds.-We aim to understand the mechanisms controlling sunflower seed dormancy at the transcriptomic level, by the application of treatments which maintain dormancy as ABA, or alleviate dormancy as ROS and ethylene. more...

A Spatial Transcriptome for Germinating Barley Grain

(Submitter supplied) A spatial resolved transcriptome for germinating barley grain was obtained for over 14,000 genes at 0, 1, 3 6 and 24 hours after imbibition. The spatial expression of a number of genes was validated using in-situ PCR, quantitative comparison to bulk RNA-seq reveal good correlations, despite the differences in the methodologies, and marker gene definition for tissues/clusters was consistent with previous gene specific studies. more...
