Study: Akkermansia muciniphila - Polyphenol interactions
show Abstracthide Abstract
It is known that polyphenols can play a role in promoting a healthy gut microbiota balance, which is beneficial in preventing metabolic diseases. Particularly, proanthocyanidins (PACs), a prominent dietary polyphenol, have been found to selectively increase the relative abundance of A. muciniphila. This symbiotic microorganism is known for supporting metabolic, immune, and gastrointestinal health. This project delves into the molecular and metabolic adaptation of A. muciniphila to dietary PACs. It sheds light on novel signaling mechanisms related to iron acquisition and regulation of siderophore uptake in the presence of dietary PACs.
