show Abstracthide AbstractThis BioProject uses culture methods to generate a biobank of isolates in pure culture from nasopharyngeal swabs that were obtained as part of the Drakenstein Child Health Study (DCHS; DOI 10.1136/thoraxjnl-2014-206242). The selection of samples is guided by 16S rRNA amplicon data that is available for each sample. Isolates generated from each sample are checked for relevance using MALDI-TOF MS. Organisms of interest are sequenced using either Illumina short-read technologies, or PacBio long read-technologies. The raw reads and assemblies are contained in this BioProject. The biobank is being constructed in order to isolate important species that are described in DCHS and other cohort studies so that phenotypes can be better understood. The biobank is also an enabling project for genomic projects.
