Study: Genome sequencing of Bovine alphaherpesvirus 1 and Bovine alphaherpesvirus 5 strains
show Abstracthide Abstract
In the present project, the complete genomic sequences of at least one representative of the different types and subtypes of bovine herpesviruses 1 (BoHV-1) and 5 (BoHV-5) isolated in Brazil or worldwide will be determined. For this purpose, the virus sample bank available in our Virology Laboratory (LabVir) at ICBS/UFRGS will be used. Genomic sequencing will be performed on state-of-the-art sequencing platforms. This study will be essential for further studies with BoHV-1 and BoHV-5, with implications not only for phylogenetics but also for the future development of diagnostic tests and for the choice of samples with potential for use as vaccine viruses. The results of this project should serve as a basis for further research on this topic, which is so relevant not only to cattle health in Brazil but also to all countries where cattle farming is expressive.
