PhoU domain-containing protein
This family contains phosphate regulatory proteins including PhoU. PhoU proteins are known to play a role in the regulation of phosphate uptake. The PhoU domain is composed of a three helix bundle [1]. The PhoU protein contains two copies of this domain. The domain binds to an iron cluster via its conserved E/DXXXD motif. [1]. 15716271. Crystal structure of a PhoU protein homologue: a new class of metalloprotein containing multinuclear iron clusters. Liu J, Lou Y, Yokota H, Adams PD, Kim R, Kim SH;. J Biol Chem. 2005;280:15960-15966. (from Pfam)
phosphate signaling complex protein PhoU
This HMM describes PhoU, a regulatory protein of unknown mechanism for high-affinity phosphate ABC transporter systems. The protein consists of two copies of the domain described by Pfam model PF01895. Deletion of PhoU activates constitutive expression of the phosphate ABC transporter and allows phosphate transport, but causes a growth defect and so likely has some second function.
phosphate signaling complex PhoU family protein
phosphate signaling complex PhoU family protein such as phosphate-specific transport system accessory protein PhoU homolog that plays a role in the regulation of phosphate uptake
