WXG100 family type VII secretion target

ESAT-6 is a small protein appears to be of fundamental importance in virulence and protective immunity in Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Homologues have been detected in other Gram-positive bacterial species. It may represent a novel secretion system potentially driven by the Pfam:PF01580 domains in the YukA-like proteins [1]. WXG100 family type VII secretion target

WXG100 family type VII secretion target similar to mycobacterial ESAT-6-like protein EsxB, also called CFP-10, which is a secreted protein that acts as a strong host T-cell antigen and is involved in the translocation of bacteria from the host phagolysosome to the host cytoplasm

WXG100 family type VII secretion target

Members of this protein family include secretion targets for the two main variants of type VII secretion systems (T7SS), one found in the Actinobacteria, one found in the Firmicutes. This model was derived through iteration from PF06013. The best characterized member of this family is ESAT-6 from Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Members of this family usually are ~100 amino acids in length but occasionally have a long C-terminal extension.
