Trp family transcriptional regulator

This protein binds to tryptophan and represses transcription of the Trp operon. [1]. 3419502. Crystal structure of trp repressor/operator complex at atomic resolution. trp operon repressor

Members of this family are the trp operon repressor TrpR, as the term is used in Escherchia coli and related species. When complexed with L-tryptophan, TrpR binds the operator region of the trp operon and prevents the initiation of transcription.
