30S ribosomal protein S6
30S ribosomal protein S6 is important for the assembly of the central domain of the small subunit via heterodimerization with ribosomal protein S18
The ribosomal protein S6 ortholog family, including yeast MRP17, shows more than two-fold length variation from 95 residues in Bacillus subtilis to 215 in Mycoplasma pneumoniae. This length variation comes primarily from poorly conserved C-terminal extensions that are particularly long in the Mycoplasmas.
