PTS system, Lactose/Cellobiose specific IIB subunit
The bacterial phosphoenolpyruvate: sugar phosphotransferase system (PTS) is a multi-protein system involved in the regulation of a variety of metabolic and transcriptional processes. The lactose/cellobiose-specific family are one of four structurally and functionally distinct group IIB PTS system cytoplasmic enzymes. The fold of IIB cellobiose shows similar structure to mammalian tyrosine phosphatases. This family also contains the fructose specific IIB subunit. [1]. 9041631. PTS ascorbate transporter subunit IIB
Involved in the phosphorylation and transport of sugars across the cell membrane; protein IIA transfers a phosphoryl group to IIB which then transfers the phosphoryl group to the sugar; IIC forms the translocation channel for the sugar uptake
PTS sugar transporter subunit IIB; PTS fructose transporter subunit IIB
PTS sugar transporter subunit IIB is part of the phosphoenolpyruvate-dependent sugar phosphotransferase system (PTS), a major carbohydrate active transport system that catalyzes the phosphorylation of incoming substrates (such as ascorbate, lactose, galactitol) concomitantly with their translocation across the cell membrane| PTS fructose transporter subunit IIB is part of the phosphoenolpyruvate-dependent sugar phosphotransferase system (PTS), a major carbohydrate active transport system that catalyzes the phosphorylation of fructose concomitantly with its translocation across the cell membrane
