mgtA regulatory leader peptide MgtL

MGTL is a bacterial protein that makes mgtA transcription sensitive to intracellular proline levels. When the levels of proline are low, this protein is not able to be translated and stem loop'C' forms in the mgt A 5'UTR which enables the transcription of the downstream mgtA gene [1]. [1]. 20813261. A bacterial mRNA leader that employs different mechanisms to sense disparate intracellular signals. Park SY, Cromie MJ, Lee EJ, Groisman EA;. Cell. 2010;142:737-748. [2]. 27849575. Mg2+ regulates transcription of mgtA in Salmonella Typhimurium via translation of proline codons during synthesis of the MgtL peptide. Gall AR, Datsenko KA, Figueroa-Bossi N, Bossi L, Masuda I, Hou YM, Csonka LN;. Proc Natl Acad Sci U S A. 2016;113:15096-15101. (from Pfam)
