ABC transporter transmembrane region 2

This domain covers the transmembrane of a small family of ABC transporters and shares sequence similarity with Pfam:PF00664. Mutations in this domain in Swiss:P28288 are believed responsible for Zellweger Syndrome-2 [1]; mutations in Swiss:P33897 are responsible for recessive X-linked adrenoleukodystrophy [2]. A Saccharomyces cerevisiae homolog is involved in the import of long-chain fatty acids [3]. [1]. 1301993. Mutations in the 70K peroxisomal membrane protein gene in Zellweger syndrome. Gartner J, Moser H, Valle D;. Nat Genet 1992;1:16-23. [2]. 8441467. Putative X-linked adrenoleukodystrophy gene shares unexpected homology with ABC transporters. The ABC transporter proteins Pat1 and Pat2 are required for import of long-chain fatty acids into peroxisomes of Saccharomyces cerevisiae. SbmA/BacA-like family transporter

The Rhizobium meliloti bacA gene encodes a function that is essential for bacterial differentiation into bacteroids within plant cells in the symbiosis between R. meliloti and alfalfa. An Escherichia coli homolog of BacA, SbmA, is implicated in the uptake of microcins and bleomycin. This family is likely to be a subfamily of the ABC transporter family. [1]. 8982000. Genetic analysis of the Rhizobium meliloti bacA gene: functional interchangeability with the Escherichia coli sbmA gene and phenotypes of mutants. Ichige A, Walker GC;. J Bacteriol 1997;179:209-216.
