KDGP aldolase

DgaF is part of the dga operon required for wild-type growth of Salmonella Typhimurium with D-glucosaminate. It catalyses the conversion of keto-3-deoxygluconate 6-phosphate (KDGP) to yield pyruvate and glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate. Orthologues of the dga genes are largely restricted to certain enteric bacteria and a few species in the phylum Firmicutes [1]. [1]. 23836865. Salmonella utilizes D-glucosaminate via a mannose family. phosphotransferase system permease and associated enzymes.. Miller KA, Phillips RS, Mrazek J, Hoover TR;. J Bacteriol. 2013;195:4057-4066. conserved hypothetical protein EF_0839/AHA_3917

Members of this family of relatively uncommon proteins are found in both Gram-positive (e.g. Enterococcus faecalis) and Gram-negative (e.g. Aeromonas hydrophila) bacteria, as part of a cluster of conserved proteins. The function is unknown.
