1.

Abnormal left ventricular function

Inability of the left ventricle to perform its normal physiologic function. Failure is either due to an inability to contract the left ventricle or the inability to relax completely and fill with blood during diastole. [from HPO]

MedGen UID:

Concept ID:
C0242698
Pathologic Function
2.

Heart failure

Inability of the heart to pump blood at an adequate rate to meet tissue metabolic requirements. Clinical symptoms of heart failure include: unusual dyspnea on light exertion, recurrent dyspnea occurring in the supine position, fluid retention or rales, jugular venous distension, pulmonary edema on physical exam, or pulmonary edema on chest x-ray presumed to be cardiac dysfunction. [from NCI]

C0018801
Disease or Syndrome
3.

Cardiac hypertrophy

Enlargement of the HEART due to chamber HYPERTROPHY, an increase in wall thickness without an increase in the number of cells (MYOCYTES, CARDIAC). It is the result of increase in myocyte size, mitochondrial and myofibrillar mass, as well as changes in extracellular matrix. [from MeSH]

4.

Congestive heart failure

The presence of an abnormality of cardiac function that is responsible for the failure of the heart to pump blood at a rate that is commensurate with the needs of the tissues or a state in which abnormally elevated filling pressures are required for the heart to do so. Heart failure is frequently related to a defect in myocardial contraction. [from HPO]

5.

Persistent truncus arteriosus

A single arterial trunk arises from the cardiac mass. The pulmonary arteries, aorta and coronary arteries arise from this single trunk with no evidence of another outflow tract. [from HPO]

Concept ID:
C0041207
Congenital Abnormality
6.

Left ventricular hypertrophy

Enlargement or increased size of the heart left ventricle. [from HPO]

MedGen UID:
57442
Concept ID:
C0149721
Disease or Syndrome
7.

Ventricular hypertrophy

Enlargement of the cardiac ventricular muscle tissue with increase in the width of the wall of the ventricle and loss of elasticity. Ventricular hypertrophy is clinically differentiated into left and right ventricular hypertrophy. [from HPO]

MedGen UID:
87400
Concept ID:
C0340279
Disease or Syndrome
8.

Cardiomegaly

Increased size of the heart, clinically defined as an increased transverse diameter of the cardiac silhouette that is greater than or equal to 50% of the transverse diameter of the chest (increased cardiothoracic ratio) on a posterior-anterior projection of a chest radiograph or a computed tomography. [from HPO]
