Treatment protocol |
Prenatal maternal stress daily during E13–E17, restraining the dams in transparent 250 ml glass cylinders filled up to a height of 5 mm with water, bright light exposure, 3 times daily, for 45 min. per session. Control pregnant females were left undisturbed in their home cages.

Growth protocol |
heterozygous (+/-) 5-HTT knockout mice ([B6.129(Cg)-Slc6a4tm1Kpl/J] (Bengel, Murphy et al. 1998) were used for breeding. The hippocampi of the offspring were examined.

Extraction protocol |
The tissue was homogenized using 500µl PegGOLD RNAPure (Peglab) and metal beads (3 min., 20Hz in a Tissue Lyser (Qiagen)). After that 100µl chloroform was added and centrifuged (5 min., 4°C, 12.000 x g). The water phase was then mixed with 250µl ethanol and from that point on the the protocol of the RNeasy Mini Kit (Qiagen) was followed

Following fragmentation, 15 ug of cRNA were hybridized for 16 hr at 45C on a Mouse Genome 430 2.0 Array. GeneChips were washed and stained in the Affymetrix Fluidics Station_450
