Ankle joints were pulverized in presence of liquid nitrogen and total RNA was extracted with Rneasy mini kit and QIAshredder (Qiagen) according to the manufacturer’s instructions.

Samples were hybridised to Affymetrix Mouse Gene 1.0 ST genechip using Affymetrix standard hybridization protocol (GeneChip Whole Transcript (WT) Sense Target Labeling Assay Manual). GeneChips were washed and stained in the Affymetrix Fluidics Station 450.
