Growth media was replaced with serum-free media containing the indicated concentrations of troglitazone or pioglitazone (Sigma-Aldrich) and vehicle (DMSO, 0.1% final concentration), and the treated cells were allowed to grow for 2 or 16 hours.

Growth protocol |
HepG2 cells (ATCC) were cultured in growth media (DMEM supplemented with 1% Penn/Strep, 1% MEM, 1% Glutamax, and 10% Serum) at 37C, 5% CO2 and 85% relative humidity. For treatments, 10^5 cells in 1 ml growth media were seeded into 24-well culture dishes and allowed to settle for 6 hours.
