Extraction protocol TRIzol (Invitrogen) was used to isolate total RNA following the manufacturers instructions.

Label protocol Target RNA was reverse transcried into cDNA and in-vitro transcribed using the Ovation Pico WTA system (NuGEN) according to the Manufacturers protocols from 50 ng total RNA (Expression Analysis Technical Manual, 2001, Affymetrix) to generate biotin-labeled cRNA.
 
Hybridization protocol Following fragmentation, 8 ug of cRNA were hybridized with Affymetrix Mouse Genome 430 2.0 Arrays and Scanned using the Afymetrix scanner M10 at the BioChip laboratory of the University Hospital of Essen, Germany
Scan protocol Array scanning was performed according to the manufacturer's instruction (Affymetrix)

Data processing Data was processed using the AltAnalyze software (www.altanalyze.org) using the default parameters.
