Study identified 3 point mutations in a novel longevity gene F07A11.2, which encodes a putative glutamine-fructose 6-phosphate aminotransferase (called gfat-1); using a forward genetic approach, gain-of-function mutations in gfat-1 was identified as the key enzyme of the hexosamine pathway and a novel regulator of protein quality control and longevity.
