    Summary
This gene encodes a member of the neuromedin family of neuropeptides. The encoded protein is a precursor that is proteolytically processed to generate a biologically active neuropeptide that plays a role in satiety, reproduction and thermoregulation, as well as in stress, fear and other behavioral responses. This gene encodes distinct isoforms, some or all of which may undergo similar processing to generate the mature protein. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2016]

RefSeqs maintained independently of Annotated Genomes

These reference sequences exist independently of genome builds. Explain

These reference sequences are curated independently of the genome annotation cycle, so their versions may not match the RefSeq versions in the current genome build. Identify version mismatches by comparing the version of the RefSeq in this section to the one reported in Genomic regions, transcripts, and products above.

      Description
Transcript Variant: This variant (2) uses an alternate splice junction at the 5' end of the last exon compared to variant 1, that causes a frameshift. The resulting isoform (2) has a shorter and distinct C-terminus compared to isoform 1.
