    Summary
This gene encodes a preproprotein that is cleaved to produce three mature peptides: melanin concentrating hormone, neuropeptide-glutamic acid-isoleucine (NEI), and neuropeptide-glycine-glutamic acid (NGE). The proprotein is processed differently depending on the tissue where it is expressed. Melanin concentrating hormone is involved in the regulation of food intake, energy homeostasis, and sleep-wake behavior. Disruption of this gene is associated with resistance to diet-induced obesity. RefSeqs maintained independently of Annotated Genomes

These reference sequences exist independently of genome builds. Explain

These reference sequences are curated independently of the genome annotation cycle, so their versions may not match the RefSeq versions in the current genome build. Identify version mismatches by comparing the version of the RefSeq in this section to the one reported in Genomic regions, transcripts, and products above.
