    Summary
Enables polyubiquitin modification-dependent protein binding activity and protein-membrane adaptor activity. Involved in macroautophagy and sperm mitochondrion organization. Located in autophagosome. Is expressed in several structures, including embryonic/larval midgut primordium; germline cell; gut section; head epidermis primordium; and mesoderm. Used to study neurodegeneration with ataxia, dystonia, and gaze palsy, childhood-onset. Human ortholog(s) of this gene implicated in Paget's disease of bone; Paget's disease of bone 3; distal myopathy with rimmed vacuoles; frontotemporal dementia and/or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis 3; and neurodegeneration with ataxia, dystonia, and gaze palsy, childhood-onset. Orthologous to human SQSTM1 (sequestosome 1). [provided by Alliance of Genome Resources, Dec 2024]
