    Summary
    Enables DNA-binding transcription repressor activity, RNA polymerase II-specific; protein heterodimerization activity; and protein homodimerization activity. Involved in several processes, including cardioblast cell fate determination; epithelial cell proliferation involved in Malpighian tubule morphogenesis; and neurogenesis. Located in cytoplasm. Is expressed in several structures, including apterous-expressing neuron of the lateral cluster of the thorax; dorsal vessel wall cell; glial cell; neuroblasts; and photoreceptor neurons. Used to study type 2 diabetes mellitus. Human ortholog(s) of this gene implicated in 46,XX sex reversal 5 and Bosch-Boonstra-Schaaf optic atrophy syndrome.
