    1. results show that de novo biosynthesis of abscisic acid, via up-regulation of the rate-limiting NCED3 gene, can be triggered by changes in leaf turgor; AHK1 does not function as the critical turgor-sensing receptor

    2. Data indicate that the unimpaired growth, abscisic acid (ABA), proline, and solute accumulation of ahk1 mutants at low psi(w) suggest that AHK1 may not be the main plant osmosensor required for low water potential psi(w) tolerance.
