Summary: GolS1 is a galactinol synthase that catalyzes the formation of galactinol from UDP-galactose and myo-inositol. GolS1 transcript levels rise in response to methyl viologen, an oxidative damage-inducing agent. Plants over-expressing GolS1 have increased tolerance to salt, chilling, and high-light stress.
