    Enables cocaine binding activity and dopamine:sodium symporter activity. Involved in several processes, including dopamine transport; regulation of presynaptic cytosolic calcium ion concentration; and response to odorant. Located in plasma membrane. Is expressed in several structures, including anlage in statu nascendi; anterior-posterior subdivision of organism; dopaminergic neurons; mushroom body slice; and synaptic neuropil domain. Used to study attention deficit hyperactivity disorder; autism spectrum disorder; and classic dopamine transporter deficiency syndrome. Human ortholog(s) of this gene implicated in several diseases, including alcohol dependence; attention deficit hyperactivity disorder; classic dopamine transporter deficiency syndrome; mild cognitive impairment; and neurocirculatory asthenia.
