ClC-a - Chloride channel-a
Enables chloride channel activity. Involved in chloride transport and water transport. Located in apical plasma membrane and basal plasma membrane. Is expressed in several structures, including Malpighian tubule Type II cell; adult head; embryonic/larval midgut; ganglia; and glial cell. Used to study myopathy. Human ortholog(s) of this gene implicated in several diseases, including idiopathic generalized epilepsy 11; myotonia congenita (multiple); primary hyperaldosteronism; renal tubular transport disease (multiple); and sensorineural hearing loss. Orthologous to several human genes including CLCN2 (chloride voltage-gated channel 2). [provided by Alliance of Genome Resources, Nov 2024]
