Dg - Dystroglycan
Enables laminin receptor activity. Involved in several processes, including imaginal disc-derived wing vein specification; nervous system development; and oogenesis. Located in several cellular components, including T-tubule; Z disc; and basal plasma membrane. Part of dystroglycan complex. Is expressed in several structures, including ectodermal derivative; epithelium; germ layer; gut section; and visceral mesoderm derivative. Used to study lissencephaly; muscular dystrophy; and muscular dystrophy-dystroglycanopathy. Human ortholog(s) of this gene implicated in bronchopulmonary dysplasia; inclusion body myositis; and muscular dystrophy (multiple). Orthologous to human DAG1 (dystroglycan 1).
