Mad1 - Mitotic arrest-deficient 1

Involved in attachment of mitotic spindle microtubules to kinetochore and mitotic spindle assembly checkpoint signaling. Located in kinetochore; nuclear envelope; and nucleoplasm. Colocalizes with mitotic spindle. Is expressed in several structures, including anterior endoderm; anterior endoderm anlage; cuboidal/columnar epithelium; embryonic/larval midgut primordium; and ganglia. Used to study microcephaly. Human ortholog(s) of this gene implicated in lymphoma; mosaic variegated aneuploidy syndrome 7 with inflammation and tumor predisposition; and prostate cancer.
