Tmem63 - Transmembrane protein 63

Enables mechanosensitive monoatomic cation channel activity. Involved in detection of humidity stimulus involved in sensory perception; monoatomic cation transmembrane transport; and regulation of response to food. Located in apical part of cell and cytoplasm. Is expressed in several structures, including adult Malpighian tubule; adult brain; adult fat body; gastric caecum; and organism subdivision. Used to study central nervous system disease. Human ortholog(s) of this gene implicated in hereditary spastic paraplegia 87 and hypomyelinating leukodystrophy 19. Orthologous to human TMEM63A (transmembrane protein 63A); TMEM63B (transmembrane protein 63B); and TMEM63C (transmembrane protein 63C). [provided by Alliance of Genome Resources, Dec 2024]
