Grip84 - Gamma-tubulin ring protein 84

Enables gamma-tubulin binding activity. Contributes to microtubule minus-end binding activity. Involved in several processes, including meiotic cell cycle; microtubule cytoskeleton organization; and spermatogenesis. Part of gamma-tubulin ring complex and gamma-tubulin small complex. Colocalizes with centrosome and mitotic spindle. Is expressed in several structures, including adult head; antennal primordium; central brain primordium; head epidermis primordium; and ventral nerve cord primordium. Used to study pachygyria, microcephaly, developmental delay, and dysmorphic facies, with or without seizures. Human ortholog(s) of this gene implicated in pachygyria, microcephaly, developmental delay, and dysmorphic facies, with or without seizures. Orthologous to human TUBGCP2 (tubulin gamma complex component 2). [provided by Alliance of Genome Resources, Dec 2024]
