Infarct volume-variant inbred strains at two developmental stages: cerebral cortex

Analysis of cerebral cortex from C57BL/6J and C3H/J strains at post-natal day 1 and week 11. These strains share similar collateral vessel anatomy but exhibit significantly different infarct volume. Results provide insight into molecular mechanisms modulating infarct volume.

Bglu3 congenic mice - gene expression in liver

(Submitter supplied) A congenic line was constructed by introgressing a C3H chromosome 1 region harboring Bglu3 into C57BL/6 apoE-/- background. RNA was extracted from liver using a QIAGEN kit . Total RNA was pooled in an equal amount from 3 mice for each group. Standard Affymetrix procedures were performed using 8ug of total RNA. Microarrays were used to detect gene expression in the liver of Bglu3 congenic mice and C57BL/6 apoE-deficient mouse strains fed a western diet.

Coxsackievirus B3 (CVB3) infection of AJ, B10.A, CSS3 and B6.chr3AJ (heart tissue day 4)

(Submitter supplied) The pathogenesis of viral myocarditis is a multifactorial process involving host genetics, viral genetics and the environment in which they interact. Here, we used a model of infection with Coxsackievirus B3 to characterize the contribution of host genetics to viral myocarditis. We determined heart CVB3 load in mice from a classical intercross between progenitors A/J (H2a) and B10.A-H2a (B10.A) of different genetic backgrounds but with a common H2 haplotype. more...

Expression differences in the liver of a congenic mouse with low serum IGF-1

(Submitter supplied) Several studies have shown that bone mineral density (BMD), a clinically measurable predictor of osteoporotic fracture, is the sum of genetic and environmental influences. In addition, serum IGF-1 levels have been correlated to both BMD and fracture risk. We previously identified a Quantitative Trait Locus (QTL) for Bone Mineral Density (BMD) on mouse Chromosome (Chr) 6 that overlaps a QTL for serum IGF-1. more...

Insulin-like growth factor-I decrease effect on the liver

Analysis of livers of animals with decreased serum insulin-like growth factor-I (IGF-I) levels. The liver is the major source of serum IGF-I. The level of serum IGF-I is correlated to bone mineral density (BMD) and fracture risk. Results provide insight into the relationship between IGF-I and BMD.

Transcriptomic analysis comparing mouse strains with extreme total lung capacities identifies novel candidate genes for pulmonary function

(Submitter supplied) Our data demonstrates enrichment of the GO term extracellular region among the decreased lung transcripts of JF1 throughout the process of lung development and maturation in consistent to the altered elastin to collagen ratio. Our microarray data showed increased ~4 fold increased elastin transcripts in JF1 lungs at P70. Specific CL‐saline/air ratio in JF1 mice compared to C3H (JF1-male: 2.68±01.10 versus C3H-male: 2.15±0.42, p<0.05; JF1-female: 3.22±0.88 versus C3H-female: 2.27±0.23, p<0.05) suggests that surface tension contributes more than the elastic recoiling properties of lung in determining the lung compliance as assessed by air filling. more...
