Time series of diabetes and exercise training induced expression changes in skeletal muscle of mice

(Submitter supplied) Experiment protocol: Experiment was performed on 10 to 15 weeks old male NMRI mice (Harlan, Holland) housed in standard conditions (temperature 22°C, humidity 60 ± 10 %, artificial light from 8.00 am to 8.00 pm, normally 5 animals per cage). Animals had free access to tap water and food pellets (R36, Labfor, Stockholm, Sweden). Animals were randomly divided into healthy and diabetic groups. The diabetic group received a single peritoneal injection of streptozotocin (STZ, Sigma-Aldrich, France, 180 mg/kg) dissolved in sodium citrate buffer solution (0.1 mol/l, pH 4.5) to induce experimental diabetes similar to type 1. more...

Exercise effect on diabetic skeletal muscle: time course

Analysis of experimental type 1 diabetic skeletal muscle subjected to endurance training. Diabetic muscle atrophy is accompanied by changes in the extracellular matrix (ECM). Results suggest the diabetes-induced decrease in gene expression of ECM proteins is partially attenuated by training.

normal and diabetic rat muscle treated and untreated with vanadyl sulfate

(Submitter supplied) RNA was obtained from rear leg muscle of normal and diabetic rats in the presence and absence of oral treatment with vandyl sulfate. Diabetes was induced with streptozotocin and expression profiles were determined using Affymetrix Rat Genechip U34A. The effect of treatment and disease on gene expression was examined. Keywords: vanadium treatment

Diabetic lung

(Submitter supplied) Effect of type 1 diabetes (induced by streptozotocin 60 mg/kg) on lung gene expression. Wistar rats, male. At age 8 weeks control rats got IP buffer, diabetic rats got streptozotocin. At age 12 weeks animals were anesthetized and lungs removed. RNA was extracted with Trizol, and gene expression array analysis was performed using Affymetrix RAE 230A microarrays according to the directions from the manufacturer. more...

Zucker Diabetic Fatty (ZDF) Rat Study - Diaphragm vs. Sternohyoid

(Submitter supplied) Type 2 diabetes differs from type 1 diabetes in its pathogenesis. Type 1 diabetic diaphragm has altered gene expression which includes lipid and carbohydrate metabolism, ubiquitination and oxidoreductase activity. The objectives of the present study were to assess respiratory muscle gene expression changes in type 2 diabetes and to determine whether they are greater for the diaphragm than an upper airway muscle. more...
