The within-host dynamics of infection in trans-generationally primed beetles

(Submitter supplied) We report the temporal dynamics of differential gene expression between primed and unprimed beetles infected with the entomopathogen Bt

Tribolium castaneum experimental evolution

(Submitter supplied) We report Illumina-generated RNASeq data of several populations of Tribolium castaneum larvae selected for higher or lower immune priming specificity as well as unselected control populations. From each of these populations, we injected groups of 20 larvae with either one of three bacteria species or left them untreated as controls. Whole body samples were taken 6h after injection and used for RNASeq Analysis.

Granulocyte dynamics: A key player in the immune priming effects of crickets

(Submitter supplied) This study investigates immune priming effects associated with granulocytes in crickets through a comprehensive analysis. Kaplan-Meier survival analysis reveals a significant contrast in survival rates, with the heat-killed Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt)-primed group (B-1) exhibiting an impressive ~80% survival rate compared to the PBS buffer-primed group (A-1) with only ~10% survival 60 hours post live Bt infection. more...

Chemical warfare does not always win – rapid evolution of increased virulence in Beauveria bassiana

(Submitter supplied) Virulence is a key trait under selection during host-parasite coevolution. In order to obtain increased fitness, parasites are predicted to increase their ability to circumvent and overcome host immunity. A particular challenge for pathogens are external immune systems, found among various invertebrates. Such external immune systems are chemical defence systems comprised of highly potent antimicrobial compounds released by prospective hosts into the environment. more...
