Long noncoding intronic RNAs are differentially expressed in primary and metastatic pancreatic cancer

(Submitter supplied) Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is known by its aggressiveness and lack of effective therapeutic options. Thus, improvement in current knowledge of molecular changes associated with pancreatic cancer is urgently needed to explore novel venues of diagnostics and treatment of this dismal disease. While there is mounting evidence that long noncoding RNAs (ncRNAs) transcribed from intronic and intergenic regions of the human genome may play different roles in the regulation of gene expression in normal and cancer cells, their expression pattern and biological relevance in pancreatic cancer is currently unknown. more...

Gene expression analysis to identify long noncoding RNAs deregulated in Myc-driven B cell lymphoma

(Submitter supplied) Myc is a well known transcription factor with important roles in cell cycle, apoptosis and cellular transformation. Long non-coding (lnc)RNAs have recently emerged as a important class of regulatory RNAs. Here, we show that lncRNAs are an extensive component of the Myc-regulated transcriptional program. Using the P493-6 inducible Myc model we demonstrate that both Myc-induced mRNAs and lncRNAs were significant enriched for Myc binding sites. more...

Expression analysis and in silico characterization of intronic long noncoding RNAs in renal cell carcinoma: emerging functional associations

(Submitter supplied) Intronic and intergenic long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) are emerging gene expression regulators. The molecular pathogenesis of renal cell carcinoma (RCC) is still poorly understood, and in particular, limited studies are available for intronic lncRNAs expressed in RCC. Microarray experiments were performed with two different custom-designed arrays enriched with probes for lncRNAs mapping to intronic genomic regions. more...

Androgen responsive intronic non-coding RNAs

(Submitter supplied) BACKGROUND: Transcription of large numbers of non-coding RNAs originating from intronic regions of human genes has been recently reported, but mechanisms governing their biosynthesis and biological functions are largely unknown. In this work, we evaluated the existence of a common mechanism of transcription regulation shared by protein-coding mRNAs and intronic RNAs by measuring the effect of androgen on the transcriptional profile of a prostate cancer cell line. more...

Sexual stage-induced long noncoding RNAs in the filamentous fungus Fusarium graminearum [I]

(Submitter supplied) Long noncoding RNA (lncRNA) plays important roles in morphological differentiation and development in eukaryotes. In filamentous fungi, however, little is known about lncRNAs and their roles in sexual development. Here we describe sexual stage-induced lncRNAs during the formation of perithecium, the sexual fruiting body of Fusarium graminearum. We identified 547 lncRNAs whose expression were developmental stage-specific; about 40% of them peaked during ascus development, when meiosis occurs. more...
