Microarray analysis of differentially expressed genes engaged in fruit development between Prunus mume and Prunus armeniaca

(Submitter supplied) Microarray analysis is a technique that can be employed to provide expression profiles of single genes and a new insight to elucidate the biological mechanisms responsible for fruit development. To evaluate expression of genes mostly engaged in fruit development between P. mume and P. armeniaca, we first identified differentially expressed transcripts along the entire fruit life cycle by using microarrays spotted with 10,641 ESTs collected from P. more...

Evaluation of genes involved in watermelon fruit ripening and development

(Submitter supplied) A microarray and quantitative Real-Time PCR-based study was conducted in watermelon [Citrullus lanatus (Thunb.) Matsum. & Nakai var. lanatus] in order to elucidate the flow of events associated with fruit development and ripening in this species. RNA from three different maturation stages of watermelon fruit, as well as leaf, were collected from field grown plants during three consecutive years, and hybridized to high-density, photolithography microarrays. more...

A microarray approach to identify genes involved in seed and mesocarp development in peach

(Submitter supplied) Background Field observations and a few physiological studies pointed out that peach embryogenesis and fruit development are strictly related. In fact, attempts to stimulate parthenocarpic fruit development by means of external tools failed. Moreover, physiological disturbances during the early embryo development lead to seed abortion and fruitlet abscission. Later on, the interactions between seed and fruit development become less stringent. more...

A genomic approach to bud mutation in sweet orange (Citrus sinensis L. Osbeck) fruit

(Submitter supplied) Bud mutations arise often in citrus. The selection of mutants is one of the most important breeding methods in citrus. However, the molecular bases of bud mutation have rarely been studied. To identify the potential important or novel genes involved in bud mutation, different transcriptomic techniques combing suppression subtractive hybridization (SSH) and microarray were performed between a lycopene accumulated mutant, ‘Hong Anliu’ sweet orange (Citrus sinensis L. more...

Transcriptional changes associated with woolliness during fruit ripening in Prunus persica

(Submitter supplied) During ripening of fruits stored under low temperatures, a number of physiological alterations which are manifested in a reduction of juice content take place, resulting in the apparition of woolly fruits. Modifications in cell wall structure during the ripening process are proposed to be key to determine the decreasing of juice content in woolly fruits. Under the assumption that changes in relative abundance of genes related to cell wall metabolism would be involved in woolliness development, in this work we present an analysis of the expression of multiple genes, which serves as an approximation to uncover the mechanisms behind this physiological alteration. more...

Transcriptome sequencing of Prunus mume for different tissues.

(Submitter supplied) We have sequenced a wild Prunus mume and constructed a reference sequence for this genome. In order to improve quality of gene models, RNA samples of five tissues (bud, leaf, root, stem, fruit) were extracted from the Prunus mume. To investigate tissue specific expression using the reference genome assembly and annotated genes, we extracted RNA samples of different tissues and conducted transcriptome sequencing and DEG analysis.

Developmental Transcriptome Profiling Uncovered Carbon Signaling Genes Associated with Almond fruit drop

(Submitter supplied) Almond is one of the most featured nut crops owing to its high nutritional value. However, due to three different waves of flower and fruitlet drop, fruit drop is a major concern for growers. In this study, we carried out a time-course transcriptome analysis to investigate gene expression difference between normal and abnormal fruitlet development. By de novo assembly analysis, we identified 33,577 unigenes and provided their functional annotations. more...
