Spinal cord and dorsal root ganglion

Analysis of spinal cord (SC) and dorsal root ganglion (DRG). The central nervous system (CNS) comprises the brain and SC; the peripheral nervous system (PNS) includes spinal and cranial nerves along with their associated DRGs. Results identify gene expression differences between the CNS and the PNS.

Profiling of visceral sensory neurons in dorsal root and nodose ganglia in BALB/c mice.

(Submitter supplied) Vagal afferent neurons are thought to convey primarily physiological information, whereas spinal afferents transmit noxious signals from the viscera to the central nervous system. In order to elucidate molecular identities for these different properties, we compared gene expression profiles of neurons located in nodose ganglia (NG) and dorsal root ganglia (DRG) in mice. Intraperitoneal administration of Alexa Fluor-488 conjugated Cholera toxin B allowed identification of neurons projecting to the viscera. more...

Nodose and dorsal root ganglia comparison (MG-U74A)

Sense-antisense transcript comparison in mouse brain and kidney

(Submitter supplied) Comparison of sense (forward probes) and antisense (reverse probes on U74 v1 gene arrays) transcripts in mouse kidney and brain. Positive calls related to antisense transcripts were compared to the cognate signals on the 430 version of mouse genome arrays to obtain genes that co expressed sense and antisense transcripts. This had to be done manually because divergent probe IDs on the two chip generations. more...

Characterization of boundary cap cells using novel markers obtained by RNA profiling

(Submitter supplied) Neural crest (NC) cells are a multipotent, highly migratory cell population that generates most of the components of the peripheral nervous system (PNS), including the glial satellite and Schwann cells. In addition, NC cells also gives rise to another type of PNS glial cell, the boundary cap (BC) cells. These latter cells are located at the interface between central nervous system and PNS, at the exit/entry points of ventral motor and dorsal sensory axons. more...

Rat Normal Cochlear Nucleus

(Submitter supplied) The cochlear nucleus is the first central pathway involved in the processing of peripheral auditory activity. It is heterogeneous in neuronal populations and physiologic responses and is organized in three major subdivisions: the anterior ventral cochlear nucleus (AVCN), the posterior ventral cochlear nucleus (PVCN) and the dorsal cochlear nucleus (DCN). Although each region demonstrates multiple cell types and functions, there are predominant populations of neurons in each region that underlie the principal role each subdivision plays in auditory processing. more...

Transcriptomes analysis of mouse developing forelimb and hindlimb autopods

(Submitter supplied) Transcriptomes of mouse embryonic autopods were generated detecting expression of approximately 26179 transcripts in the developing forelimb or hindlimb autopods, representing about 58 % of the probe sets on MOE-430 A/B GeneChip. Three biological replicate array experiments were finished for each condition and MAS5.0 signal were used to do data analysis. Forty-four transcripts with expression differences higher than 2-fold were detected(T test, P<0.05), including Tbx4, Tbx5, Hoxc10 and Pitx1 which were previously shown to be differentially expressed in developing forelimb and hindlimb bud by in situ hybridization and SAGE study (Margulies 2001). more...

Comparative analysis of gene expression in A/J CB versus DBA/2J

(Submitter supplied) We hypothesize that gene expression in the CBs of these two strains of mice are divergent thus contributing to the disparity in the phenotypes. More specifically, (1) genes related to CB function are expressed less in the A/J mice compared to DBA/2J mice; (2) gene expression levels of morphogenic and trophic factors of the CB maybe significantly lower in the A/J mice than the DBA/2J mice. In order to test these hypotheses, we utilized microarray analysis to examine transcriptional differences between CBs of both strains of mice. more...
