Folic acid supplementation normalizes the endothelial progenitor cell transcriptome of patients with type 1 diabetes

(Submitter supplied) Background: Endothelial progenitor cells play an important role in vascular wall repair. Patients with type 1 diabetes have reduced levels of endothelial progenitor cells of which their functional capacity is impaired. Reduced nitric oxide bioavailability and increased oxidative stress play a role in endothelial progenitor cell dysfunction in these patients. Folic acid, a B-vitamin with anti-oxidant properties, may be able to improve endothelial progenitor cell function. more...

Folic acid effect on endothelial progenitor cells of type 1 diabetes patients

Analysis of endothelial progenitor cells (EPCs) from patients with type 1 diabetes (T1D) before and 4 weeks of dietary folic acid (FA) supplementation. EPCs are involved in vascular wall repair. T1D results in reduced circulating EPCs. Results provide insight into the effect of FA on EPC function.

Sentrix HumanRef-8 Expression BeadChip

(Submitter supplied) The Sentrix® HumanRef-8 BeadChip can be used to study expression of over 23,000 human transcripts from the NCBI RefSeq database. Researchers can generate whole-genome expression profiles for 8 samples in parallel on a single BeadChip. The array is composed of 3 micron features with average feature redundancy of 30-fold. All features are quality controlled by sequential hybridizations process called array decoding. more...
