Cluster analysis of rat pancreatic islet gene mRNA levels after culture in low, intermediate and high [glucose]

(Submitter supplied) Background: Survival and function of insulin-secreting pancreatic β-cells are markedly altered by changes in nutrient availability. In vitro, culture in 10 rather than 2mM glucose improves rodent β-cell survival and function whereas glucose concentrations above 10mM are deleterious. Pancreatic islet response to glucose in vitro: dose response

Analysis of pancreatic islets cultured for 18 hours in 2, 5, 10, or 30 mM glucose. Culture in 2 to 10 mM glucose improves beta cell survival and function, while concentrations above 10 mM are deleterious. Results provide insight into the molecular basis of this sensitivity to glucose concentrations.
