Antibiotics induce redox-related physiological alterations as part of their lethality

(Submitter supplied) Deeper understanding of antibiotic-induced physiological responses is critical to identifying means for enhancing our current antibiotic arsenal. Bactericidal antibiotics with diverse targets have been hypothesized to kill bacteria, in part, by inducing production of damaging reactive species. This notion has been supported by many groups, but recently challenged. Here we robustly test the hypothesis using biochemical, enzymatic and biophysical assays along with genetic and phenotypic experiments. more...

Gentamicin effect on fur-deficient cells

Analysis of Δfur and wildtype cells treated with the bacterial antibiotic gentamicin and harvested 1 hr post-treatment. Fur is the master regulator of iron metabolism in E. coli. Results provide insight into Fur's influence on the magnitude of stress responses triggered by bactericidal antibiotics.

[E_coli_2] Affymetrix E. coli Genome 2.0 Array

(Submitter supplied) Affymetrix submissions are typically submitted to GEO using the GEOarchive method described at http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/projects/geo/info/geo_affy.html The GeneChip® E. coli Genome 2.0 Array contains probe sets to detect transcripts from the K12 strain of E. coli and three pathogenic strains of E. coli. Using the new E. coli Genome 2.0 Array, researchers can gain a comprehensive view of three pathogenic forms of E. more...
