SE2200 family small protein Members of this staphylococcal protein family are small, typically 33 amino acids long, with the first 18 amino acids resembling a signal-anchor domain for membrane insertion. A proteomics study demonstrates significant protein expression in Staphylococcus aureus, and conservation in the genus suggests purifying selection as would be expected for a real protein. This family, broadly distributed in the genus Staphylococcus, was once described as DUF2648 by Pfam model PF10855, but at the time this model was built (April 2022), that Pfam model had been retired under suspicion of not identifying real proteins.
