Myoregulin Myoregulin (MLN) is encoded by a skeletal muscle-specific RNA Linc-RAM, which is annotated as a putative long noncoding RNA (lncRNA). It is a single-pass transmembrane alpha-helix that interacts directly with sarcoplasmic reticulum (SR) calcium transporting ATPase (SERCA) and impedes Ca(2+) uptake into the SR. SERCA is the membrane pump that controls muscle relaxation by regulating Ca(2+) uptake into the SR. MLN is the dominant regulator of SERCA1 activity in adult skeletal muscle and is a promising drug target for improving muscle performance.
