GeneReviews — Review Processes

Initial Posting: ; Last Revision: October 22, 2020.

Peer Review

Consistent with the process used by scholarly journals, each new GeneReview is reviewed by two to four experts on the disorder who check the entry for accuracy, completeness, and clinical relevance. Reviewers are anonymous to authors.

Updates

Every four to five years, GeneReview chapter author(s) and GeneReviews editorial staff undertake a comprehensive review of chapter content and format to ensure its currency and continuing clinical relevance to diagnosis, patient care, and genetic counseling.

Revisions

Time-critical revisions to a GeneReview are initiated by the editorial staff or the author(s) whenever a clinically significant development (e.g., identification of a gene, advances in treatment) needs to be published.
